IT Career Awareness Program

ITCND is working with private and public sector partners to establish a first-ever IT Career Awareness Program to inform students, parents and educators of IT career opportunities in North Dakota and develop a world-class IT workforce for the future.

According to research conducted by two workforce-related state agencies, securing an educated and skilled IT workforce for the future and creating awareness of the state’s IT career opportunities are two significant IT workforce needs. Currently, there is no statewide program to address these issues.

The IT Career Awareness Program will be approached in three phases: 1) Feasibility and Industry Support Study; 2) Program Development; 3) and Program Coordination and Implementation. ITCND will be the coordinating entity and the private sector connection.

North Dakota IT Business Resource Guide

The North Dakota IT Business Resource Guide is a comprehensive inventory of the IT products and services provided and used by North Dakota IT businesses. It is a valuable online resource for developers, businesses leaders, and decision-makers to determine what IT companies and resources exist in North Dakota and identify where the state's greatest opportunities exist.

As a member of ITCND, your businesses products and services are included in the online North Dakota IT Business Resource Guide.

IT Business Outreach Initiative

The goal of ITCND's IT Business Outreach Initiative is to connect North Dakota IT businesses with state, federal and prime IT contractor procurement officers at a series of events with the objective of securing large IT contracts.

The North Dakota Federal IT Contracting Roundtable was held in May 2005 in Bismarck to familiarize North Dakota IT companies on the necessary steps to be in the position to take advantage of federal IT contracting opportunities. More than 75 North Dakota IT business representatives attended the event, which gave them the opportunity to meet with procurement officials from four federal agencies.

This event was followed up by the IT Contracting Roundtable held in July 2005 in Washington, D.C. Hosted by U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan, four ITCND member companies had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with procurement officers from eight of the largest prime IT contractors in the nation, as well as two federal agencies. This event played a role in Noridian Administrative Services securing a more than $97 million federal contract. This has created opportunities for other North Dakota IT companies since Noridian is subcontracting with other companies as well.

ITCND, Sen. Dorgan and the Information Technology Department hosted the North Dakota IT Open in August 2006 in Fargo. This is a state and federal IT procurement event connected North Dakota IT companies with state and federal IT procurement officials. The IT Open also featured a networking golfing and social.

State of the IT Industry Guide

The first-ever North Dakota State of the IT Industry Guide was published in 2005 and distributed by ITCND, North Dakota policy makers, the North Dakota Department of Commerce, and local economic development groups to inform decision makers of the impact of the information technology industry has had onNorth Dakota's economy. The guide is produced every two years coinciding with the legislative session.
